SageScents

This month marks the anniversary of SageScents candles. I consider myself a candle creator, and an entrepreneur.

I have always been creative and thanks to my upbringing, a lover of scents. My mom and I used to browse through high end department stores and bath and body works sniffing and trying on scents like ' human bloodhounds!'

We used to dream about how to concoct exotic flavors ( she was partial to mango and Jasmine anything and I loved the fresh scents of coconut, citrus and passion fruits). Fast forward to my senior year and the thought popped into my head - why not create what I've always admired.

But before you run off and start your own empire I've learned some valuable tips that I'd like to share. Read these a couple of times before you get started!

1. Do what your passionate about because it is hard work and time is limited.

2. Start up costs are real and I had angel family investors that I clung to for the first several months ( big tip: make sure they get a part of your products or service 🏽)

3. Time Management. I'm still in school and managing my side hustle so you have to be intentional about planning time for and prioritizing the important things - school or your day work depending on what you're doing

4. Come up with a catchy title, story or label - this also helps to market and brand who you are.

5. Quality counts. I've tweaked my scents and my candles size based on feedback I've received and yes sometimes feedback can feel personal, but I'm learning it can only help my business to grow.

6. Enjoy. At the end of the day and especially in the beginning this is an optional part of your day, but when you love and have passion for your business, it will not only be an additional income stream, but it will bring you great satisfaction.

Good luck guys !
